We understand the connection between you and your beloved pet. For Erie pet owners seeking a sustainable choice for their pet’s final rest, we prioritize the earth over merchandising. Our only optional add-on is a small volume of organic soil amendment—if having your pet “home” feels right to you.

Emily Lubahn, Tim Shuttleworth, and Jim Irons formed Green Goodbyes to provide sustainable and affordable pet after-care to pet owners in Northwest PA. Our modern facility and caring team welcome pets large and small, aiming to make you and your pet comfortable throughout this process.
We are a pet-loving small business that genuinely cares about animals and the people who care for them. We concluded there must be a sustainable alternative to cremation—one that gives a pet’s last presence on earth meaning beyond ash in an expensive urn.
Now you have a choice: a sustainable choice, a green choice. We do not sell urns or memorial boxes, because this is not all about the money. In general, natural reduction is less costly than cremation.
Our service
Communal natural organic reduction.
We offer communal reduction because most pets are communal by nature: cherished members of a family that includes both people and animals.
Rest together
Your pet is gently and respectfully laid in a vessel, separated from other animals by soft organic media such as straw, hay, alfalfa, mulch, or other carbon-rich material.
Return to the earth
We supply oxygen and maintain conditions that allow natural forces to convert tissue into soil.
Rest & mature
When complete, the remains are gently removed, mixed, and left to rest and mature in a quiet rural setting.

Individual cremation is as costly to the environment as it is to the pocketbook.
Local conservation
A final rest that can help renew the place we call home.
The soil amendment from this process is valuable and helpful. Green Goodbyes first seeks to donate it to local soil-conservation projects where rich organic matter can make a meaningful difference.
That may include repairing an eroded stream bank, restoring native plants on State Game Lands, or establishing grassy cover after road and bridge work. Green Goodbyes never sells the resulting soil amendment.

From a cherished home, to a quiet rural setting, to projects that restore the earth—this is care that reaches beyond one goodbye.
Memorial compost
A small way to bring them home.
Our only optional service is a token volume of screened compost for a pet owner’s use. It can be spread where your pet played, or in the flower garden where they napped.
5 gallons of screened compost $75.00
This option is delivered about one year after your pet’s passing. It can offer final peace and a feeling that your pet is still present with you.
When elected, Green Goodbyes also purchases a tree to be planted by the National Arbor Day Foundation in your pet’s honor.
